Sheet copper, etching, 2025

The first metal that humans learned to extract from ore was copper.
I find a used copper plate, clean off the oxide, polish it.
Coat it with soft ground.
Leave the touches of my body.
Etch.
Wash everything clean and cover it with hard ground.
I scorch it over the flame so that soot settles on the surface.
With a needle, I lift the ground, leaving wounds—
wounds that must be deepened even more through etching.
I wash off the ground, paint the back.
My work is done. Now time will take over.
The copper will dull, cover itself with oxide.
But it will keep the memory of the touches.
